How to get a bigger guitar sound by using 2 guitars a 57 and a ribbon mic. Layering electric guitar parts for more weight, depth, and dimension to the existing parts. I’m not adding parts to just add more tracks, it does have a purpose, adding depth and texture.
I’ll be micing and recording my Marshall JCM800 100 Watt Amp with a 4X12 Marshall Cabinet. Mics I’ll be using are the Shure SM57 and the Sterling ST170 Ribbon Mic.

On Instagram, Bob Clearmountain takes to video to accurately describe the difference between Multitracks vs Mixing Stems. He’s right. Stems (or mixing stems) are subgroups of tracks, typically a stereo track whereas Multitracks are individual tracks of a mix. It can be a tongue twister with all the “M’s” but think of “tracks” as individual channels/tracks and “stems” as groups of channels/tracks. I have made the mistake of saying “mix stems/mixing stems” as opposed to multitracks. Not the end of the world but it can be confusing when you want to know what you’re actually getting.
In this video, I will show you a couple easy EQ tricks to get your kick drum to sound huge and massive. This will help you give weight to your kick drum regardless of genre or music style…..that might have been a redundant statement there. Super easy and super fast with great results.
